Lord Mayor Treloar Hospital – Reserved Matters application for 280 houses.  Ref: 30021/066.

We strongly objected to this second Reserved Matters application to build 280 houses – the biggest development to hit us yet.  (Click here for our comments in full).  Whilst the developers had responded to some of the problems raised at the public consultation, there were many issues remaining, including:-

  • the potential desecration of the butterfly meadows,
  • the idea of a ‘country park’ (a nonsense in our view),
  • a deplorable lack of sustainable energy design, and
  • inadequate pedestrian links.

In the end, we were disappointed, though not surprised, that permission was granted for this huge  development (280 houses) at the EHDC Planning Committee on 26th June 2019, with no changes of any significance to the developer’s plans.  Alton’s two committee members were the only councillors to oppose the plans, with the remaining twelve voting in favour.  Ginny Boxall represented her concerns as local member (though not on the committee), and huge thanks to our secretary David Simpkins for representing the Society, as ‘objectors’.
