Looking to the Future

Did you know that 60% of the fuel used to generate our electricity is imported from overseas? Coal from Russia, gas from Norway and uranium from Kazakhstan to name some of the  sources.

Renewable energy is becoming the second biggest source of electricity in the UK. The power is harnessed from our own resources like the sun, rain and wind. It currently provides a quarter of the UK’s power needs.

We are a global leader in combating climate change and we need to push hard to reach our target of reducing CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050.

So what of the future? It is your children and grand children who will have to tackle climate change.  When looking to the future the choices we make now are crucial. Our links with Alton Climate Action Network and Energy Alton helps the Society to focus on these issues and we can encourage small steps here in our town. Whether it is the built or natural environment we have a message which is worth supporting and could lead to a clean energy economy based on renewables.
